My black history is elsewhere, but…

Every February, I am always left with this strange feeling, one where I am celebrating a history that’s mine to celebrate because of my skin color. My history happened back in Nigeria. And it’s a very different one from the long shadow of American slavery that shapes so much of what Black History Month commemorates.
