The 15 best Mother’s Day gifts for immigrant moms

Mother's Day gift guides are usually written by one person guessing what your mother might like.

For an immigrant mom, especially if it's her first Canadian Mother’s Day, these gifts can fall wide off the mark.

So I asked 37 immigrant women who moved to Canada from over 14 different countries what would have actually helped in their first months here. The recommendations in the guide below come from them, the product picks come from me.

About a third of the recommended gifts can't be wrapped. Such as:

Where to go when the apartment feels small
A guide to the systems she's still learning about
The roadmap nobody handed her

If you're an immigrant mom in Canada with a gift you wish someone had given you in your first months here, write to us. Next year's guide is already taking shape and won’t be as late as this one.

Finally, Skincare That Boosts NAD+ At the Source

For decades, skincare has focused on aesthetic results. But we started by asking a different question: what if instead of trying to preserve our skin's youth, we prioritized optimizing our skin's function? That's how Aramore’s  NAD+ skincare was born.

Developed by Harvard & MIT scientists, Aramore is a skincare system based on skin’s performance, not just its appearance. NAD+ production slows down significantly as we age, and this causes all the telltale science of aging.

Aramore is the only skincare formulated to help skin produce NAD+ like much younger skin would. The result? Skin that’s stronger, firmer,  and more resilient, that not only looks better, but stays healthier over time.

From our newsroom

Canada fast-tracks PR for 33,000 temporary workers. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced May 4 that it is accelerating permanent residence processing for up to 33,000 temporary foreign workers already living in smaller communities across the country. The one-time measure spans 2026 and 2027, and eligible applicants do not need to take any action. — Full article here

IRCC is launching a program to contact international students with expiring status from June 2026. Deputy Immigration Minister Ted Gallivan told a Commons committee that IRCC will begin reaching out to students with expiring status in June, following an Auditor General report that revealed the department could not confirm whether tens of thousands had left the country. — Full article here

Nova Scotia limits most PNP nominations to workers already in the province. The province's updated priorities open only healthcare and skilled trades to international applicants. Most other occupational groups now require candidates to already live and work in Nova Scotia. — Full article here.
