Shari Graydon is an award-winning writer, speaker, and feminist activist who has woven words to achieve social justice through print and broadcast media commentary, kids’ books, speeches, and spoken-word poetry for three decades.

She’s worked as a newspaper columnist, TV producer and press secretary to a BC premier. Since creating Informed Perspectives in 2010, she has trained thousands of women and gender-diverse experts to share their subject-matter insights more accessibly and engagingly, amplifying their influence and making Canada more democratic.

In 2018, she partnered with researchers to create the innovative Gender Gap Tracker/Radar de parité to measure progress in real time, and she’s now building a coalition to advance a systemic change solution to the chronic under-representation of women in politics through her organization’s “Balance The Power” campaign.

Shari's advocacy work has been recognized with a Governor General’s Award in Commemoration of the Persons Case, and honours from Women of Influence and WXN’s Top 100 Most Powerful Women.

Takeaways

  • I've seen folks compare the coming referendum to Brexit. And maybe for good reason, because people can vote for something whose implications they don't fully understand, and then everyone else has to live with the results for years. That said, we shouldn't ignore Albertans' grievances. But could we just talk about what needs to change without this looming threat of separation?
