Hello, and welcome back to The Newcomers - where we explore what it means to be an immigrant.
It’s 2025, and we’re excited to kick things off this year.
P.S. In case you somehow found this newsletter from somewhere/someone other than me or Jola…we would appreciate it if you subscribed.
If you described Canadian immigration in 2024 as a category 4 hurricane, I don't think a lot of people would disagree with you.
Everything changed.
The number of immigrants coming into the country went up. Permanent Residency target numbers were reduced starting in 2025 and for the following two years. Study permit approvals got capped at 437,000. LMIA wasn't spared. The temporary foreign worker program that's been rife with fraud also got capped.
And these are only a snapshot of all the changes that happened over the past 12 months.
So, we had to start the year by asking Blayne Kumar of IMMproved, what will Canadian immigration look like in 2025?
Enjoy…
