My Postpartum Experience as a Canadian Immigrant Mom
"It takes a village to be a Mom. Be the village."
Motherhood! Immigration! Oh, man
I could go on and on.
One of the defining aspects of modern motherhood is the pervasive sense of loneliness and isolation. There are a ton of playgroups and activities for the kids, but the mothers seem to be left to sort out stuff on their own.
And please don’t tell a Mom to go read a mom blog.
Throw in our inane need to show off our kid’s milestones or boast about our parenting methods. And we end up with unnecessary pressure.
And for immigrant moms, it can be worse. Because it can sometimes be a lonely journey.
Stephanie Appiah-Kubi joined the folks at Africhange to share what it was like managing her post-pregnancy period in Canada without the usual community she would have had back in Ghana.
Enjoy. But remember…
…It takes a village to be a Mom. Be the village.
