IRCC has an online tool called Come to Canada where foreign nationals can check their eligibility to apply as immigrants, visitors, workers, or students in Canada.
This tool guides you through questions about your personal and work history. Based on your responses and situation, it gives you
A list of options, and
Step-by-step application instructions
This tool only checks your eligibility for federal immigration programs. However, both federal and provincial governments facilitate immigration programs.
The federal government makes the final decision on all applications and partners with provinces and territories to deliver some permanent residence programs. Consider all options, including federal and provincial programs.
Additionally, the Come to Canada questionnaire assesses your eligibility only. Many applications are accepted by invitation only, including Express Entry. Note that not all eligible candidates will be invited to apply.
Assessing your eligibility is only one step in determining your strategy. You must also evaluate your likelihood of being invited to apply.
The Come to Canada tool is for reference only. No immigration decision will be based on your answers. If you apply, an immigration officer will consider your complete application based on Canada’s immigration law. Your results won’t affect their decision.
The tool directs you on how you can create an account and fill out the online application.
Most applications are now submitted online, including non-Express Entry permanent residence applications. Use the correct application portal based on the application type.
When choosing an immigration program and strategy for temporary or permanent relocation to Canada, factor in your personal and professional short-term and long-term goals. Consider your future aspirations, not just your current situation.
Researching before committing to a program is key. Explore your options to find the best fit for your goals. If you’re unsure, chatting with an immigration professional can help.
